Bold black. Rich gold veining. A polished porcelain surface that stops anyone in their tracks. Black and gold marble effect tiles bring the drama of luxury stone into everyday spaces, without the upkeep or the premium cost of natural marble.

Available in 60x60cm and 60x120cm formats, each tile is crafted from high-quality porcelain at 9.5mm thickness. Rectified edges, a polished finish, and underfloor heating compatibility make this collection built for real homes and high-end commercial interiors.

What Black & Gold Marble Effect Means

Black and gold marble effect porcelain replicates the look of rare natural stone, specifically the deep-black base and golden vein structure found in stones like Nero Marquina and Michelangelo marble. No quarrying. No sealing. Just the aesthetic.

The polished porcelain surface reflects light like genuine stone, making rooms feel larger and brighter. The gold veining creates depth and warmth against the near-black background, a contrast that reads as genuinely luxurious.

Polished Finish: What It Does to a Room

A polished tile surface bounces natural and artificial light across the floor and walls. In darker spaces, that reflectivity opens up the room. In larger spaces, it amplifies the sense of scale.

Gold veining catches the light differently at different angles. That subtle movement in the surface is what separates high-quality marble effect porcelain from flat-looking imitations. Browse the full wall tiles range to see how polished finishes work across different aesthetics.

Rectified Edges and Why It Matters

Rectified tiles are cut to precise dimensions after firing. The result: perfectly consistent sizing across every tile in the batch.

That precision allows for tighter grout joints — sometimes as narrow as 1.5mm — which creates a near-seamless surface across large floor areas. Less visible grout means more visible tile. The black and gold marble pattern reads continuously across the room, exactly as it would with natural stone slabs.

60x60cm vs 60x120cm: Choosing the Right Format

Format

Best For

Effect

60x60cm

Bathrooms, feature walls, smaller rooms

Classic square look, balanced proportions

60x120cm

Open-plan floors, hallways, larger bathrooms

Fewer grout lines, elongated slab effect

The 60x60cm wall and floor tile suits most residential bathrooms and kitchens. The 60x120cm format is the go-to for hotel-style bathrooms, open living spaces, and ground floors where continuity matters.

For both sizes, sold per square metre, with 4 tiles per box and a weight of 6KG per tile.

Underfloor Heating Compatibility

Porcelain conducts heat efficiently. Black and gold marble effect tiles in this collection are confirmed compatible with electric and water-based underfloor heating systems.

Polished porcelain holds warmth well and releases it evenly across the surface. Paired with a heated floor system, the result is a bathroom or kitchen that feels as good as it looks. Check the floor tiles collection for more underfloor heating-ready options.

Where to Use Black & Gold Marble Tiles

Feature Walls — A single wall tiled in polished black and gold changes the focal point of any room immediately.

Nero Marquina and Marquina Black Gold Variants

Two of the most popular options in this collection draw directly from Nero Marquina marble heritage. The Marquina Black Gold porcelain tile delivers the deep black base and precise gold veining of Spanish Nero Marquina in a 60x120cm polished format.

For a white-veined alternative, the Marquina Black White polished tile suits spaces where the contrast needs to stay crisp and graphic rather than warm.

Sky Golden Black: The Premium Option

The Sky Golden Black range brings a softer variation of the black and gold marble aesthetic. The gold tones are more dispersed across the surface, creating an effect closer to natural stone slabs with irregular mineral deposits.

Available in 60x60cm and 60x120cm formats, both polished. The face variations across the batch reduce repetition across a tiled surface, which is what separates a quality marble effect from an obvious print.

High Gloss vs Polished: The Real Difference

Some tiles in this collection carry a high gloss finish, others a polished finish. Both are reflective, but they serve slightly different purposes.

  • Polished — Ground and buffed to create a smooth, mirror-like surface. Higher light reflection, slightly more depth in the veining.

  • High Gloss — A surface coating applied during manufacturing. Still highly reflective, often more uniform in sheen.

The Rich Black Gold High Gloss tile and Epitome Black Gold High Gloss are worth comparing side by side if the finish level matters for a specific project.

Apollo Black Gold: Matt Anti-Slip Choice

Not every project calls for a polished surface. Wet room floors, commercial spaces, and areas with high foot traffic benefit from slip resistance.

The Apollo Black Gold 60x60cm matt anti-slip tile carries the same black and gold marble aesthetic in a matt, anti-slip surface. The dark tones hide marks and maintain the premium look in practical settings.

Black & Gold Marble Alongside Other Tile Families

Black and gold works well in combination with other tile families across a home. Onyx tiles share similar translucency and depth. Grey tiles provide a neutral counterpoint in adjoining spaces. Across a full interior scheme, pairing happens through veining tone rather than pattern matching.

Design Pairing Guide: What Goes With Black & Gold Tiles

Choosing fixtures and finishes to pair with black and gold marble effect porcelain:

  1. Brass or gold hardware — Pulls the gold in the veining into the broader scheme. Tap fittings, cabinet handles, and mirror frames in brushed gold read as intentional.

  2. White walls and ceilings — Creates contrast that lets the tile do the work. Avoids visual competition.

  3. Matte black fixtures — Echoes the black base of the tile without adding a competing reflective surface.

  4. Natural oak or walnut vanities — Warm wood tones sit well against the cool black ground and bring organic balance.

  5. Marble-effect accessories — Soap dispensers, trays, and countertops in white or grey marble connect the bathroom palette without repetition.

How to Calculate How Many Tiles to Order

Sold per square metre, each tile box contains 4 tiles at 60x60cm format (approximately 1.44m² per box).

Steps to calculate:

  1. Measure the length and width of the space in metres

  2. Multiply to get the total area in m²

  3. Add 10% for cuts, wastage, and future repairs

  4. Round up to the nearest full box

For irregular rooms, calculate each section separately, then total the areas before adding wastage. For more guidance, the tiles collection page includes format comparisons across the full range.

Black Marble Bathroom Tile Design Ideas

The way black marble tiles are used in a bathroom changes the entire character of the space. A full wet room in black and gold reads as a five-star hotel suite. A single feature wall behind a freestanding bath reads as intentional and editorial.

Common Questions About Black & Gold Marble Tiles

Is polished porcelain slippery?

Polished tiles are smooth and can be slippery when wet. For wet room floors or areas with water exposure, the Apollo Black Gold anti-slip tile is the safer choice. Polished tiles are well-suited to walls and dry floor areas.

Does the gold colour fade?

No. The colour and veining in porcelain tiles are fired into the body of the tile at high temperature. The gold tone in the pattern is part of the tile itself, not a surface coating. It will not fade, peel, or wear off.

Can these tiles go outside?

The tiles in this collection are rated for interior use. For outdoor applications, a specific frost-resistant, anti-slip rated tile is required.

Are samples available?

Yes. Ordering a sample before committing to a full project quantity is strongly recommended, especially for polished tiles where the light conditions of a specific room affect the appearance considerably.
