A wall mounted basin tap comes out of the wall above the basin instead of sitting on it. Nothing stands on the worktop, so there is nothing to clean around, and countertop bowls and floating vanity units get a clean, built-in look.

Plan the pipework first

The hot and cold supplies have to be run into the wall at the right height before you tile, so a wall mounted tap is best fitted as part of a renovation. On a stud wall, fit a noggin or backing board to fix to, and check the wall is deep enough for the pipework.

Check the spout reach

The spout should reach roughly the centre of the bowl. The Oriana wall mounted mixer projects 213mm from the finished wall, which clears most countertop bowls and wall-hung basins. Measure from the finished wall to the middle of your basin before you order, and set the height so the outlet sits comfortably above the rim.

Can I fit a wall mounted tap without chasing the wall?

Not neatly. If you would rather avoid wall work, a tall basin mixer fits a countertop bowl through a hole in the worktop.

Which basins suit a wall mounted tap?

Basins without a tap hole: countertop bowls, and wall-hung or vanity basins made for wall taps. A basin with a tap hole would leave the hole on show.

Is a waste included?

No. Choose a click-clack waste in the same finish, and use an unslotted waste if your basin has no overflow.
