Why countertop basins need a tall tap
A countertop, vessel or sit-on basin stands on top of the worktop, so its rim is far higher than an inset basin's. A standard mixer would sit below the rim. A tall basin mixer, also called a high-rise mixer, raises the spout so water falls into the centre of the bowl instead of onto the worktop.
Getting the height right
Measure from the worktop to the top of the basin rim and compare it with the tap height on the product page, leaving room to get your hands under the outlet. The Oriana tall mixers have a 179mm spout reach, which puts the water in the middle of most round and oval bowls.
Tall mixer or wall mounted tap?
A tall mixer fits through a single tap hole in the worktop, so there is no work to the wall. A wall mounted basin tap leaves the worktop completely clear, but the pipework has to be run into the wall before tiling.
Not for standard basins
On an inset or pedestal basin, a tall mixer sits too high and splashes. For those basins, choose a standard mono basin mixer.
Tall basin mixer FAQs
Do I need a tap hole in the worktop?
Yes. A deck-mounted tall mixer fits through one hole in the worktop behind the bowl, unless your basin has its own tap ledge with a hole.
What waste should I use with a countertop bowl?
Most countertop bowls have no overflow, so use an unslotted click-clack waste. Wastes are sold separately.
