Slotted basin waste — required when your basin has an overflow hole. The slot allows excess water from the overflow to drain safely, preventing flooding.
Unslotted basin waste — used when your basin has no overflow. Never fit an unslotted waste to a basin with an overflow, as it will block the drainage path.
