Getting the toothbrushes off the basin rim is the whole idea — it clears the surface and stops the pooling that discolours a glass left standing. The tumbler lifts out so it can go in the dishwasher.

• Lift-out tumblers can be cleaned properly, fixed ones cannot.
• Mount beside the basin at a height you can reach without stretching over the bowl.
• Glass tumblers look better; metal ones survive a tiled floor.
