These are chrome plated wire, which stands up to a shower environment well. What shortens the life of any metal basket is abrasive cleaners and limescale removers left sitting on it.

Can a shower basket be fitted after tiling?

Yes, with a tile bit to get through the glaze. Fixing into the grout line rather than the middle of a tile reduces the risk of cracking it.
