The small parts that finish a radiator installation properly: 15mm pipe sleeves and rosettes to cover the gap where pipes come through the floor, column radiator feet, stand brackets for panel radiators, dual fuel heating element kits for towel rails, and bleed valves.

Pipe sleeves are the cheapest upgrade in heating. Bare copper tails coming out of a floor next to a good radiator look unfinished, and a pair of sleeves and rosettes in a matching finish takes a couple of minutes to fit. Available in chrome, anthracite grey, matt black, brushed nickel and white to match the radiator rather than clash with it.

What does a dual fuel kit do?

It adds an electric heating element to a towel rail that is plumbed into your central heating, so the rail can be run on electric alone in summer when the boiler is off. It means dry towels in August without heating the whole house.

Do I need pipe sleeves?

Not functionally — they are purely cosmetic. They cover the exposed copper tails and the hole in the floor, which is the difference between a radiator that looks fitted and one that looks connected.
