Hekla Magma Rustic Brown Slate Effect Matt Porcelain 60x120cm Wall & Floor Tile

Hekla is named after the Icelandic volcano, and Magma is the colour that earns the name — a rustic multicolour slate in the style of the classic Indian rustic slate, where soft silver-grey and warm mid-brown are broken by rich patches of copper, rust and ochre. Every tile carries a different mix of the three, so a floor of it has genuine movement, and the cleft-face texture is reproduced in matt porcelain you can feel under your hand. At 60x120cm with rectified edges it gives you a large-scale rustic slate floor with tight joints and none of the sealing or upkeep of the real thing.

Where it works

Kitchen and utility floors, hallways, boot rooms, conservatories, living room floors and fireplace surrounds — anywhere you would have laid a rustic multicolour slate. The warm copper tones make it the better choice than a plain grey in a room with timber, brick or terracotta: it ties in with oak worktops, exposed brick and warm-white walls rather than fighting them, and the busy surface hides dirt better than any plain tile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it slippery?
No. Hekla has a pendulum test value of 36+, which the HSE classifies as low slip potential — the category recommended for bathroom, kitchen and hallway floors. The riven matt surface is what delivers that grip.

Why does every tile look different?
Because that is what multicolour slate does. Hekla is printed with a high number of face variations and graded V3 for shade variation, so the copper and rust patches sit in different places on every piece. Dry-lay and mix tiles from several boxes before fixing so the variation is spread evenly across the floor.

How do I clean a textured tile?
A flat microfibre mop and a pH-neutral porcelain cleaner. Avoid soap-based products, which leave a film in the texture. Unlike real slate, it never needs sealing.

What preparation does a 60x120cm tile need?
A flat, stable substrate, a large-format flexible adhesive, full back-buttering and a levelling clip system. A mid-grey or brown grout disappears into the variation and keeps the slate-floor look.

How do I measure my room for tiles?

Are these tiles suitable for underfloor heating?
Yes, most of our porcelain and ceramic tiles are suitable for underfloor heating. Please check the 'Product Details' tab for specific confirmation on this product.
Do I need to seal these tiles?
Porcelain and glazed ceramic tiles do not require sealing. Natural stone and some unglazed tiles may require sealing before and after grouting.
