Marena Black Gloss Ceramic 75x300mm Metro Wall Tile
Black metro is the confident choice, and gloss is what stops it from swallowing a room. Marena Black has a deep, reflective glaze that bounces light off the surface rather than absorbing it, so a black splashback reads as glossy and deliberate instead of heavy. Used behind a hob or in a small cloakroom it looks considerably more expensive than it costs.

Where it works
Hob splashbacks, cloakrooms, bar areas and shower feature walls. Black is at its best in small doses or in rooms you want to feel enclosed and dramatic rather than airy — a windowless cloakroom is a better home for it than a north-facing bathroom.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will black make a small room feel smaller?
Used floor to ceiling in a bright room, yes. Used on one wall or as a splashback, the opposite — the contrast makes the surrounding space read as larger. Gloss helps considerably.
Is the black consistent across tiles?
Yes. This is a Spanish-made tile and dark glazes are where factory quality shows most — a poor black metro varies visibly between boxes, which is impossible to hide once it is on the wall.
What grout colour?
Black or dark grey for a near-seamless wall; white grout for a graphic, high-contrast grid. There is no middle ground with black metro, so pick a side.
Does it show marks?
Gloss black shows water spots and dust more than lighter colours. It wipes clean easily, but factor that in if it is going somewhere that gets heavy splashing and infrequent cleaning.
