Onyx Diora Gold 60x120cm polished porcelain on a kitchen floor, splashback and waterfall island with charcoal grey cabinets
Table of Contents

Onyx Diora Gold is a 9mm polished porcelain tile printed with a soft onyx pattern: an ivory-white base, pale grey translucent bands and thin amber-gold veins. It is rectified, rated for walls and floors, and safe over underfloor heating. Tiles Paradise sells it in two sizes, 60×120cm at £22.99 per m² and 60×60cm at £21.99 per m².

    Short answer for busy buyers

Use it on indoor walls, including inside a shower, and on dry indoor floors such as kitchens, hallways and living rooms.

Do not use it on a shower floor, a wet-room floor or outdoors, because the polished face is slippery when wet.

Expect a quiet, light tile with fine gold threads, not a bold gold tile. Order a £1.99 cut sample first if colour matters to you.

What does Onyx Diora Gold look like in a real room?

Onyx Diora Gold looks like pale, milky onyx with a few fine gold lines running through it. The base colour sits between ivory and soft white. Wide, cloudy bands of light grey give it the layered, slightly see-through look of real onyx. The gold is a thin amber thread along some of the veins, so it reads as an accent rather than a gold tile.

Light changes how the tile reads. Under warm bulbs of about 2700K, the ivory comes forward and the room feels creamy. Under cool daylight from a north-facing window, the grey bands come forward and the floor looks closer to a light greige. Both are the same tile. This is why our own listings describe it as "ivory with gold" on one size and "grey and gold" on the other.

In search terms, Diora belongs to the white-and-gold and gold onyx family of tiles. It sits at the softest, most ivory end of that family.

The polish is a true high gloss. It mirrors pendant lights and windows, which makes a small room feel brighter and a large room feel deeper. The trade-off is that a gloss face also shows footprints and water marks sooner than a matt one.

Four faces of the Onyx Diora Gold 60x120cm polished porcelain tile side by side, showing an ivory-white base, soft grey bands and thin amber-gold veins

Four faces from the 60×120cm product page. The veins move in a different direction on each face, so the floor never repeats in an obvious way.

How much gold is in Onyx Diora Gold?

Onyx Diora Gold has a small amount of gold, limited to fine amber-gold veins on part of each face. Most of the surface is ivory-white and pale grey. If you want gold that you can see from across the room, look at a tile with heavier gold veining. If you want warmth without the room shouting "gold", Diora is the calmer choice.

Does every Onyx Diora Gold tile look the same?

No two neighbouring tiles look the same, because Onyx Diora Gold is printed with several different faces. The 60×120cm product page alone shows four different faces. Before fixing, lay a few rows out dry and turn or swap tiles until the veins flow without two identical faces sitting side by side.

How much does Onyx Diora Gold cost per m², per box and per pallet?

Onyx Diora Gold costs £22.99 per m² in 60×120cm and £21.99 per m² in 60×60cm when you buy by the box. Both sizes come in boxes of 1.44m², so one box costs £33.11 or £31.67. Half-pallet job lots bring the price down to about £18 per m². Full pallets bring it down to about £17 per m² and include free UK mainland pallet delivery.

When is a job lot or a pallet cheaper than buying boxes?

A job lot is cheaper than loose boxes once your order reaches about 13 boxes of 60×120cm (18.72m²) or about 16 boxes of 60×60cm (23.04m²). A full pallet of 60×120cm costs less than 24 or more loose boxes (34.56m²). A full pallet of 60×60cm costs less than 30 or more loose boxes (43.2m²).

Delivery changes the sums at the edges. Orders over £499 get free standard pallet delivery to the UK mainland, and orders from £100 to £499 pay £39.99. Both job lots cost less than £499, so check the delivery line at checkout before you decide. A 60×60cm job lot only beats loose boxes after delivery from about 17 boxes.

Why is Onyx Diora Gold cheaper per m² than similar gold onyx tiles?

Onyx Diora Gold is cheaper because of its current price on our site, not because it is a thin or wall-only tile. It is 9mm rectified porcelain rated for floors. On 21 October 2026 it sat about £2 per m² below Aurora Onyx Gold and about £5 per m² below Persian Onyx Gold White in the 60×120cm size. Prices change with stock, so the table date matters.

Which size should you choose: 60×120cm or 60×60cm?

Choose 60×120cm for open-plan floors, long hallways and feature walls, and choose 60×60cm for small rooms, floors with lots of cuts and DIY fitting. Our customers split almost exactly in half. In the 12 months to September 2026, about 51% of the Onyx Diora Gold area we sold was 60×120cm and 49% was 60×60cm. Neither size is the "right" one. The room decides.

The bigger tile shows more of the onyx pattern on each piece, so the veins look longer and more natural. The smaller tile is easier to set level on an older floor that is not perfectly flat. If the room is under about 5m² or has a toilet, basin pedestal and door frames to cut around, the 60×60cm is the safer buy. Our guide to matching large floor tile sizes to room sizes goes deeper on scale.

How many boxes of Onyx Diora Gold do you need?

You need your floor or wall area plus 10% for cuts, divided by 1.44m² per box, rounded up. The 10% allowance is the figure our product pages use for straight layouts. Use 15% for herringbone or diagonal layouts.

Order every box in one go. Porcelain is made in batches, and two batches can differ slightly in shade. A spare box also covers a cracked tile years later, when the same batch may be gone. Where can you use Onyx Diora Gold, and where should you not?

Onyx Diora Gold belongs on indoor walls of any kind and on indoor floors that stay dry. It does not belong on a shower floor, a wet-room floor, a pool surround or any outdoor surface. The rule comes from the polished face, not from the porcelain body, which is water-resistant.

Is Onyx Diora Gold good for a kitchen?

Onyx Diora Gold works well in a kitchen on the floor, the splashback and even the side panels of an island. The pale colour keeps a kitchen bright, and the thin gold lines pick up brass handles and pendant lights. A full-height splashback in 60×120cm gives you long runs of veining with very few joints behind the hob. Our onyx effect kitchen tiles guide covers heat and stain questions for this whole style.

Warm oak, cream doors and brass pendants bring out the ivory side of Onyx Diora Gold.

Is Onyx Diora Gold good for a bathroom?

Onyx Diora Gold is a strong bathroom wall tile, and it suits the floor outside the shower when you keep that floor dry. Inside the shower, tile the walls and put a shower tray or a matt anti-slip tile on the floor. The bathroom in the photo below does exactly that: Diora on every wall, a terrazzo-effect tray underfoot and black fittings for contrast.

Is a polished Onyx Diora Gold floor slippery?

A polished Onyx Diora Gold floor is safe to walk on when dry and slippery when wet, like any high-gloss tile. No slip rating is published for this tile, so do not treat it as an anti-slip floor. In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive treats a wet Pendulum Test Value of 36 or more as low slip potential. Polished porcelain usually falls well short of that when wet.

The practical answer is simple. Use it where floors stay dry, wipe spills at once, and put mats where water lands: at the sink, the bath and the back door. For a shower or wet-room floor, use a matt tile from our non-slip bathroom floor tiles range instead. Pale matt tiles sit happily next to Diora walls.

Who should not choose a polished floor?

Homes with elderly relatives, toddlers learning to walk or large dogs are better served by a matt floor. A matt onyx-effect floor keeps a similar look with far less slip risk, and Diora can still go on the walls.

How should Onyx Diora Gold be fitted?

Onyx Diora Gold should be fitted like any large polished porcelain: on a flat, sound surface, with a flexible adhesive, full adhesive cover and a levelling system. A polished face shows every small height difference between tiles under raking light. Good preparation matters more with this tile than with a matt one.

    1. Check the surface. Lay a 2m straightedge across the floor. Fill dips before tiling, because the 60×120cm tile will bridge them and rock.
    2. Use a flexible adhesive. A C2 S1 cement-based adhesive is the usual choice for large porcelain and underfloor heating.
    3. Get full cover. Comb the adhesive with a 10–12mm notched trowel and back-butter each tile, so no hollow spots are left under the gloss.
    4. Keep joints at 2–3mm. Rectified edges allow narrow joints, but do not butt tiles tight together.
    5. Use levelling clips. Put them on every joint of the 60×120cm to stop lippage while the adhesive sets.
    6. Offset by a third, not a half. On the 60×120cm, a brick pattern should move each row by no more than 400mm.
    7. Protect the face. Cover the finished floor with card while other trades work.

The adhesive and grout section of our shop stocks Mapei products. Mapei adhesive and grout ordered with your tiles is 10% off, taken off in the basket. Our step-by-step guide to laying large format porcelain floor tiles covers concrete, timber and heated floors in more detail.

Why lay 60×120cm Onyx Diora Gold at a one-third offset?

A one-third offset keeps neighbouring tile edges at closer heights than a half offset. Long porcelain tiles can have a very slight bow along their length. At a half offset, the end of one tile meets the middle of the next, and any bow shows as a ridge. The US standard ANSI A108.02 caps the offset at 33% for tiles with a side over 18 inches (457mm), and many tile makers give the same advice.

Diagram comparing a half offset and a one-third offset for 60x120cm polished porcelain floor tiles, showing where lippage appears and the 400mm recommended offset

At a 400mm offset, the joints land a third of the way along each 1,200mm tile.

Can Onyx Diora Gold go on plasterboard walls?

Onyx Diora Gold can go on sound, primed plasterboard, but it is too heavy for many plaster-skimmed walls. A 9mm porcelain tile weighs roughly 21kg per m², worked out from the usual density of porcelain. The British Standard BS 5385-1 allows about 32kg per m² of tile plus adhesive on plasterboard, and about 20kg per m² on gypsum plaster. In a shower, use cement backer board and a tanking system behind the tiles.

Does the edge type matter for a polished floor?

Rectified edges matter because they let the tiles sit close with thin joints. Thin joints keep the onyx pattern flowing across the floor. Our explainer on rectified porcelain tiles and edge tolerance shows why a rectified tile still needs a small joint.

What grout, metals and colours go with Onyx Diora Gold?

The best grout for Onyx Diora Gold is a warm off-white that matches the ivory base, such as Mapei Ultracolor Plus 130 Jasmine or 103 Moon White. Bright white grout looks slightly cold against the ivory. On a busy kitchen or hallway floor, a soft grey such as Mapei 110 Manhattan 2000 hides dirt better and echoes the grey bands. Avoid dark grout, because it draws a strong grid over a pattern that is meant to flow. Our guide to grouting floors, walls and showers covers mixing and cleaning off.

Element Works well Use with care
Taps and handles Brushed brass, antique gold, matt black Bright chrome, which can look cold

Bathroom furniture Walnut, fluted white, light oak Busy patterns that compete with the veins

Do ivory and gold go together?

Ivory and gold go together well, because both are warm colours. Gold against bright white looks crisp and formal. Gold against ivory looks softer and more relaxed, which is the effect Onyx Diora Gold gives.

Gold fittings work because the tile already carries a little gold. The veins give brass something to answer, so the room feels planned rather than matched by luck. Our guide to pairing gold kitchen tiles with cabinet colours applies the same thinking to whole kitchens.

How does Onyx Diora Gold compare with Aurora Onyx Gold and Persian Onyx Gold White?

Onyx Diora Gold is the softest and cheapest of our three polished gold onyx tiles. Aurora Onyx Gold has more movement and darker accents. Persian Onyx Gold White has a whiter base and more visible gold. All three are 60×120cm and 60×60cm porcelain for walls and floors.

Questions buyers ask about Onyx Diora Gold

Is Onyx Diora Gold real onyx?

No, Onyx Diora Gold is porcelain printed with an onyx design, not natural onyx stone. Real onyx is a soft, banded stone that scratches, etches and stains easily. Porcelain is far harder and absorbs almost no water: porcelain tiles are defined by water absorption of 0.5% or less under BS EN 14411. The same trade-off applies to marble looks, as our comparison of marble effect porcelain and real marble explains.

Does Onyx Diora Gold need sealing?

The porcelain body does not need sealing, and the grout joints benefit from a grout sealer on light floors. Some polished porcelain has tiny pores opened by the polishing. Test a spare tile before grouting: rub in some grout, wait ten minutes and wipe it off. If a shadow stays, apply a porcelain impregnating sealer to the faces before you grout.

Will a polished porcelain floor scratch or show water spots?

A polished porcelain floor resists everyday wear, but grit dragged under shoes can dull the gloss over time. Doormats at outside doors and felt pads on chair legs prevent most of it. Water spots show on gloss when hard water dries on the surface. Drying the floor with a microfibre mop after washing stops the marks. Unlike marble, porcelain is not usually re-polished at home, so prevention matters more than repair.

How do you clean Onyx Diora Gold?

Clean Onyx Diora Gold with warm water and a pH-neutral floor cleaner, then dry it with a microfibre mop. Avoid wax, oil soaps and abrasive powders, because they leave a film or dull the polish. Our guide to cleaning tiles and grout by tile type covers stubborn marks and grout lines.

Can I use 60×60cm on the floor and 60×120cm on the walls?

Yes, you can mix the two sizes, because both are the same design and finish. The 60×60cm floor is easier to fit around a toilet and basin, while the 60×120cm walls give long, unbroken veins. Order both sizes at the same time to keep the shade as close as possible.

Can Onyx Diora Gold be used outdoors?

No, Onyx Diora Gold is an indoor tile. A wet polished surface is unsafe on a patio, and outdoor tiles are usually thicker and textured. Choose an R11 outdoor porcelain for terraces instead.

Will the colour on my screen match the tile?

Screens show colour differently, so the tile may look warmer or cooler in real life. A cut sample costs £1.99 and a 20×50cm sample costs £7.99. Look at it on the floor in daylight and again in the evening under your own bulbs.

How is Onyx Diora Gold delivered?

Onyx Diora Gold is delivered on a shrink-wrapped pallet to the kerbside. Standard delivery takes 2–4 working days, and next-working-day delivery is available on many orders, depending on postcode and cut-off time. Boxes are heavy, so plan for help carrying them in. Open a few boxes and check the tiles before any are cut or fixed.

    Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. The site offers 0% interest-free finance and Klarna at checkout, alongside cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Last thoughts on Onyx Diora Gold

Onyx Diora Gold is a light polished porcelain onyx tile for people who want warmth and a quiet hint of gold rather than a bold gold statement. It suits kitchens, living spaces, hallways and bathroom walls, and it stays off wet floors. Choose 60×120cm for open rooms and 60×60cm for small ones. Buy a sample, buy every box in one order, and lay it on a flat floor at a one-third offset. Do those four things, and the tile will look as calm on your floor as it does in the photos.
