Venetia Onyx White is a polished porcelain wall and floor tile in a 60×120cm rectified format, with a soft, cloudy white face crossed by fine amber, gold and grey veins. At Tiles Paradise it costs £24.99 per m² (RRP £59.99). It suits bathroom walls, kitchens, living rooms, hallways and feature walls, and it works with underfloor heating. It is not the right choice for shower floors, wet rooms or outdoor areas.
This guide answers the questions buyers ask before they order a large polished tile: what it looks like up close, which rooms it suits, how slippery it is, what a whole room costs, and how to fit it so the floor stays flat.

What Is the Venetia Onyx White Polished Porcelain Tile?
The Venetia Onyx White is a porcelain tile printed with the look of white onyx and then polished to a mirror shine. Porcelain is a dense ceramic fired at very high temperature. Under the European tile standard EN 14411, a tile counts as porcelain when it absorbs no more than 0.5% of its weight in water. That low absorption is why porcelain copes with bathrooms, kitchens and heated floors.
The tile is sold by the square metre on the Venetia Onyx White product page, where a calculator turns your area into a tile count. Every tile measures 60×120cm and covers 0.72 m², so one square metre needs about 1.39 tiles.
Is Venetia Onyx White real onyx?
No. Venetia Onyx White is porcelain with an onyx design, not natural stone. Real onyx is a soft, translucent, banded stone. It scratches easily, etches with acids such as lemon juice, needs sealing and costs far more per square metre. The porcelain version copies the cloudy depth and veins but keeps the hardness and low upkeep of porcelain. Our guide to white marble effect porcelain versus real marble explains the same trade-off for marble, and the points carry across to onyx.
Venetia, Venetian or Venezia: are they the same thing?
They are not. "Venetia Onyx" is the name of this porcelain tile range. "Venetian onyx" is a colour name some sink and cabinet makers use, and "Venezia" is the Italian name for Venice. If you searched for any of those and landed here, the tile on this page is the Venetia Onyx range sold by Tiles Paradise in white, blue, green and pink.
What Does Venetia Onyx White Look Like Up Close?
Venetia Onyx White has a soft white base with a cloudy, layered pattern, like light passing through stone. Thin veins run across the face in amber, gold, brown and grey. The veins are sparse, so most of each tile reads as calm white, and the colour sits close to a warm white rather than a cool, blue-white.

No two tiles show the same vein path. The product photos show at least three different faces, and the veins travel diagonally at different heights. Lay out a dry run of six to eight tiles before fixing, so two strong veins don't end up side by side.
How is it different from Onyx White and Crystal Onyx White?
The warm, darker veins are what set Venetia apart. Onyx White polished porcelain has soft, pale veining that blends into the white. Crystal Onyx White is a cooler white with fine grey veining. Ice Onyx Pearl White is a warm ivory with almost no visible veins. Choose Venetia when you want the white to carry a visible thread of gold and brown that ties in with brass taps, walnut joinery or warm lighting.
Where Can You Use Venetia Onyx White? A Room-by-Room Verdict
You can use Venetia Onyx White on any indoor wall and on dry indoor floors. Its limit is grip when wet, not strength. The table below gives a straight verdict for each room.
| Room or surface | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Bathroom walls, including inside the shower | Yes | Walls need no grip. Large tiles mean fewer grout lines to clean. Waterproof (tank) the wall behind the shower first. |
| Bathroom floor outside the shower | With care | Fine when dry. Use a bath mat and dry splashes. Pick a matt tile if children or older people use the room. |
| Walk-in shower floor or wet room | No | A polished surface under running water and soap gives too little grip. |
| Kitchen walls and splashback | Yes | Wipes clean of grease and sauce. One tile can span a 120cm run without a joint. |
| Kitchen floor | With care | Wipe spills straight away. Put a runner in front of the sink and dishwasher. |
| Living and dining rooms | Yes | Dry floors, where the shine and the 120cm length look best. |
| Hallway | With care | Wet shoes and grit arrive here. Use a large doormat inside the front door. |
| Feature walls and fireplace surrounds | Yes | The veins show best on a big, uninterrupted wall. Near a stove, use an adhesive rated for heat. |
| Patios, balconies and outdoor steps | No | This is a 9mm indoor tile with a polished face. Outdoors needs thick, textured porcelain. |
In kitchens, the questions run past slip to heat, grease and how veins look behind a hob. Our onyx effect kitchen tiles guide covers those in detail. For bathrooms, the onyx effect bathroom tiles collection puts polished and matt onyx designs side by side, so you can pair a polished wall with a matt floor.
Is Polished Venetia Onyx White Slippery on a Floor?
Yes, when it is wet. Dry, a polished porcelain floor has enough grip for normal walking. Add water, soap, oil or a wet shoe sole, and the grip drops sharply. That is true of every polished tile, not just this one.

Two tests measure slip in the UK. The pendulum test gives a Pendulum Test Value (PTV). The UK Slip Resistance Group rates a wet PTV of 36 or more as low slip potential, 25 to 35 as moderate, and 24 or below as high. Polished tiles usually score in the high-risk band when wet. The ramp test (DIN 51130) gives R ratings from R9 to R13, where R9 is the lowest grip and suits dry indoor floors.
No slip rating is published for Venetia Onyx White. Treat it as a dry-area floor tile. If you need grip, there are two good options:
- Alba Onyx White satin porcelain keeps a white onyx look in the same 60×120cm size with a softer satin sheen and more grip than polished.
- Gemstone Onyx White matt anti-slip is a 60×60cm tile made for floors that get wet.
A common design trick is polished Venetia on the walls and a matt or anti-slip tile on the floor. Browse the anti-slip bathroom tiles collection for shower floors, and read our guide to R ratings for bathroom, kitchen and outdoor floors before you choose.
How Much Does Venetia Onyx White Cost for a Whole Room?
Venetia Onyx White costs £24.99 per m² at Tiles Paradise, down from an RRP of £59.99, a saving of £35.00 per m². One tile works out at about £17.99, and a full box of two tiles at about £35.99.
The table below prices four real-sized projects. Each one adds 10% for cuts, rounds up to whole tiles and uses the current price per m². Prices are for tiles only.
| Project | Area + 10% | Tiles | Tile cost | Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bathroom feature wall, 2.4m × 2.4m | 6.34 m² | 9 (6.48 m²) | £161.94 | £39.99 |
| Hallway floor, 4.5m × 1.2m | 5.94 m² | 9 (6.48 m²) | £161.94 | £39.99 |
| Kitchen floor, 4.0m × 3.5m | 15.40 m² | 22 (15.84 m²) | £395.84 | £39.99 |
| Open-plan living and dining, 6.0m × 4.5m | 29.70 m² | 42 (30.24 m²) | £755.70 | Free |
Standard pallet delivery is free on orders over £499 to the UK mainland. Orders between £100 and £499 pay £39.99. Tiles arrive on a pallet at the kerbside, so plan for two people to carry them in. Check the boxes while they are still on the pallet and photograph any damage: it has to be reported within 2 working days, or longer if you add Extended Delivery Protection (£9.99) at checkout.
Order a sample before the full quantity. A cut sample costs £1.99 and a 20×50cm sample costs £7.99. The larger sample shows how a vein runs across a bigger area, which a small cut piece can't show.
How Many Venetia Onyx White Tiles Do You Need?
Divide your area in m² by 0.72 to get the number of tiles, after adding wastage. Measure each wall or floor, multiply length by width, add the areas together, then add a cutting allowance.
- Add 10% for straight layouts and simple rooms.
- Add 15% for rooms with lots of corners, boxed pipes or a window reveal.
- Divide by 0.72 and round up to a whole tile.
- Keep one or two spare tiles. A later batch may differ slightly in shade, and leftover tiles can't be returned.
The tile calculator does this for you. For walls with windows, door openings or half-height tiling, our bathroom tile quantities guide shows how to subtract openings without under-ordering. Buy the full amount in one order so every tile comes from the same production batch.
How Does Venetia Onyx White Compare With Other White Onyx Tiles?

How Do You Fit 60×120cm Polished Porcelain Without Lippage?
You fit it on a flat surface, with full adhesive cover, levelling clips and a one-third offset. Lippage is a step between two neighbouring tile edges. On a polished tile it catches the light and shows across the whole room, so large polished tiles need more care than small matt ones.

Listed below are the seven rules a tiler follows with this format:
- Check the base is flat. A common target for large tiles is no more than 3mm of deviation under a 2m straightedge. Level any dips first.
- Use a flexible cement-based adhesive (S1). Porcelain absorbs almost no water, so it needs an adhesive that grips by polymer, not by suction.
- Give every tile a solid bed. Spread with a 10–12mm notched trowel, comb in one direction and back-butter the tile. BS 5385 guidance calls for full contact on floors, with no hollow spots.
- Offset by a third, not a half. For a brick pattern, move each row 40cm, not 60cm. Long tiles have a slight natural bow, and a half-bond puts a joint right beside the high point of the next tile.
- Use levelling clips on every joint. They hold edges flush while the adhesive sets.
- Keep joints slim but real. Rectified edges allow about 2mm on walls. On floors, 2–3mm gives room for small size differences. Leave a movement gap around the edges, hidden under skirting.
- Cut with the right tool. To cut along the 120cm side you need a rail cutter or wet saw with at least 125cm capacity. Carry tiles on their edge, with two people or suction lifters.
Our guide to rectified porcelain tiles explains why a 1mm joint looks tempting and why it causes trouble later.
Can Venetia Onyx White go on plasterboard or a plastered wall?
It can go on most walls with the right preparation, but check the weight limit first. A 9mm porcelain tile weighs roughly 18–21kg per m² before adhesive. Guidance commonly quoted from BS 5385-1 limits gypsum plaster to about 20kg/m² including adhesive, and plasterboard to about 32kg/m². That puts a skim-plastered wall at or over its limit. Fix to plasterboard, cement board or a tile backer board instead. Our porcelain wall tiles guide covers wall weights and backer boards in more depth.
Does Venetia Onyx White work with underfloor heating?
Yes. Porcelain passes heat through quickly, and the product is listed as suitable for underfloor heating. Use a flexible S1 adhesive. Leave the heating off until the adhesive and grout have fully cured, often 7 to 14 days (check the bag). Then bring it up in small steps over several days. Many adhesive makers recommend keeping a tiled floor surface no warmer than about 27°C. For the full sequence from screed to first heat-up, see how to lay large format porcelain over concrete and underfloor heating.
Which Grout Colour Suits Venetia Onyx White?
A warm white or light ivory grout suits Venetia Onyx White best. It matches the base colour, so the joints fade and the tiles read as one surface. Mapei shades such as 103 Moon White or 130 Jasmine are typical choices.
- Bright white grout can make the tile look slightly cream next to it, because the base is a warm white.
- Light beige or sand picks up the gold in the veins and hides dirt on floors.
- Mid or dark grey draws a grid across the floor. Avoid it unless you want the tile outline to show.
Test your grout on a spare tile first. Spread a little, wipe it off after ten minutes and check that no colour stays on the polished face. For mixing, filling and cleaning off, follow our step-by-step grouting guide.
How Do You Clean and Look After a Polished White Onyx Tile?
Clean it with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner made for porcelain, then dry it with a microfibre cloth. Drying matters on a polished surface. In hard-water areas, which cover much of England, water left to dry leaves chalky spots that show on a shiny tile.
- Avoid wax, oil soap and "shine" products. They leave a film that dulls the polish and makes the floor more slippery.
- Avoid scouring pads and powders. They can wear fine scratches into the shine.
- Keep strong acid descalers off the grout. Cement grout is less resistant to acid than the tile face.
- Put felt pads on chair and table legs and use doormats. Grit carried on shoes is what dulls polished floors over time.
Our guide to cleaning bathroom tiles and grout sorts cleaners by tile type and explains how to lift limescale safely.
Does Venetia Onyx White need sealing?
No. The product page confirms the tile face doesn't need sealing. Seal the grout instead, a week or so after grouting, to help light grout stay clean on floors.
Will it scratch, stain or turn yellow?
It resists stains and won't turn yellow, because the design is fired onto the porcelain in the kiln. A polished face can pick up fine scratches from grit or from dragging heavy furniture. Those marks show more on shiny tiles than on matt ones. Doormats, felt pads and regular sweeping prevent most of them.
Which Other Colours Come in the Venetia Onyx Range?
The Venetia Onyx range comes in four colours: white, blue, green and pink. All four share the 60×120cm size, the polished finish and the price of £24.99 per m².

Venetia Onyx Blue is a pale blue-grey with violet veins. Venetia Onyx Green is a soft mint with bronze veins. Venetia Onyx Pink is a blush tone with rose-brown veins. Because all four share one size and thickness, you can run white on the floor and a colour on one wall with flush edges where they meet.
Questions Buyers Ask About Venetia Onyx White
Is Venetia Onyx White suitable for a small bathroom?
Yes. A large tile gives a small room fewer grout lines, and the shine bounces light around. In a very small room, check the cuts first: a 120cm tile across a 150cm wall leaves one 30cm strip. Our large format floor tiles room-fit guide shows how to plan cuts by room size.
Can I lay Venetia Onyx White vertically on a wall?
Yes. Standing the tiles portrait, 120cm tall, makes a room look taller and puts fewer horizontal joints at eye level. Stack them straight, or use a one-third offset.
Can I use it in a shower enclosure?
Yes on the walls, no on the shower tray area or a wet-room floor. Pair it with an anti-slip floor tile.
Can I lay 60×120 tiles in herringbone?
It isn't recommended. Herringbone with a 2:1 tile this large creates very heavy waste at the edges, often 15% or more, and needs a very flat floor. Choose a straight lay or a one-third offset instead.
Can I clad a kitchen island with it?
You can tile the vertical sides of an island, as the product photos show. That counts as a wall application, so use the same adhesive as for a wall. For the worktop itself, use a slab or worktop material designed to take knives, hot pans and point loads.
Will the tile match the photos on screen?
Screens show colour differently, and vein paths change from tile to tile. Order a sample to see the colour in your own light, and buy the full quantity in one order to keep the batch shade consistent.
Can I return leftover tiles?
No. You can cancel a whole order within 14 days of delivery if the tiles are unused, in their original packaging and resaleable, and a handling fee applies. Leftovers after a job can't be returned, so measure carefully and use the calculator.
Is Venetia Onyx White good for a commercial space?
It suits walls in shops, salons and reception areas. For commercial floors with public foot traffic, choose a tile with a published slip rating that meets your risk assessment.
Last Thoughts on Venetia Onyx White
Venetia Onyx White is a 60×120cm polished porcelain tile for people who want white onyx with visible warmth: soft cloudy white, thin gold and brown veins, and a mirror shine. It is at its best on walls of any kind and on dry floors in living rooms, kitchens and hallways. It needs a flat base, a solid adhesive bed, a one-third offset and slim joints to look right. Its only real limit is grip when wet, so pair it with a matt or anti-slip tile where water collects. At £24.99 per m², a feature wall costs under £165 in tiles and a full open-plan floor under £760. Start with a sample on the Venetia Onyx White page and compare it with the rest of the 60×120cm large tile range in your own light.
